Study on the repurposing and temporary use of an iconic heritage site in a small town of the future

The City of Saint-Maixent wishes to redevelop, over the long term, the abbey located in the heart of the city, which has stood vacant for about a decade. To strategically consider the nature of the project and its implementation, the city is working with Plateau Urbain to assess the feasibility of a long-term redevelopment project. The objective of the project is to identify the site’s future uses and the conditions for phased implementation in order to test different uses within the site and gradually rehabilitate the town’s heritage. Through several workshops and meetings, Plateau Urbain is working to develop the project’s guidelines, ensuring the necessary diversity given the site’s size relative to the town’s scale. The Abbey of Possibilities must support Saint-Maixent, the “Small Town of Tomorrow.”
