As part of its partnership with the Foundation for Housing for the Disadvantaged, Plateau Urbain conducted fieldwork to explore the possibility of setting up a “third place” project in a former seaside summer camp. Apartments for two refugee families were renovated on the site; the support provided involved working with a citizens’ collective, local associations, and stakeholders to explore the future of the rest of the site: programmatic priorities tied to the local context, spatial opportunities, construction work, technical and regulatory approaches, and phased development of the site were the focus of on-site working sessions with partners. At the conclusion of the support process, a collective stepped forward to acquire the site and develop it into a gathering place for various groups (migrants, as well as tourists and local residents).
