Plateau Urbain was commissioned by Engie to assist in identifying various options for utilizing a former warehouse building within an industrial site in Montigny-lès-Metz, a suburb of Metz. Following a technical, regulatory, and capacity assessment of the building—which spans over 1,000 m²—as well as an analysis of existing dynamics and initiatives in the area, several potential directions have emerged for this site: a food hub serving as a precursor to a future food market in a neighboring urban development zone (ZAC), a circular economy hub aimed at supporting the regional policy to structure the reuse sector, or, finally, a community space centered around events and sports programming to meet the demand for social gathering places outside the city center. Recommendations regarding regulations, technical and spatial interventions, as well as implementation methods and key considerations regarding economic models and timelines, were shared with the project owner to help them decide on the most appropriate solution.
