Feasibility Study for the Implementation of a Temporary Circular Economy Project in a Former Supermarket

Plateau Urbain conducted an initial short-term feasibility study (3 months) to demonstrate the interest and technical and programmatic feasibility of temporarily occupying this former store located in the metropolitan heart. Since the MEL aims to develop an industrial-focused economic program over the next decade, the goal was to test economic program scenarios to envision the site’s transformation, limit vacancy, and prevent potential deterioration of the site. The study’s results confirmed the building’s preservation and the MEL’s desire to launch a pilot project in 2022 to open the site to project leaders focused on the circular economy.
Throughout 2022, Plateau Urbain worked specifically on two sites: a former Castorama hardware store in Hellemmes and a vacant lot in Roubaix. Regarding the first site, Plateau Urbain assisted the MEL in determining the scope of work required to rehabilitate the site in preparation for a project focused on the circular economy and reuse. Additionally, a call for expressions of interest was launched at the end of the year to select a project operator and manager. The social integration organization Vitamine T was selected.
