Font et Romani is a textile arts workshop co-founded by Charlotte Font and Charlotte Romani, which employs the Savonnerie weaving technique—a craft inherited from Turkey and brought to France in the 17th century.
The workshop, established in September 2022, is the only private workshop using this technique, which is now preserved by the Mobilier National, where our two artisans were trained.
Plateau Urbain’s role in the project
For Charlotte and Charlotte, who arrived in Chapelle Nouvelle in July 2022, their business depends on access to a workspace. This location is therefore the realization of their workshop and the opportunity for new collaborations.
“Coming here allowed us to meet many people who helped our project mature.”
Charlotte tells us in particular about Julien, a photographer also based in the third place, who helped them develop their communication through photographs of their work. Alongside other residents of Plateau Urbain, Font and Romani participated in 2023 and 2024 in the European Day of Arts and Crafts (JEMA), with the first year also marking the first time they exhibited their work to the public!
“It’s been two years of peace of mind that we needed to get started; it’s our second home.”
