Portrait of Laurie Dumar – Artist-in-Residence at La Pampa
After working as a resident at Atlas in Asnières, Laurie discovered La Pampa, located in Cachan, just 15 minutes from her home. It’s the perfect place to work on her art.
With a master’s degree in Museology and Intercultural Communication from Paris-Sorbonne University, Laurie Dumar moved to Berlin in 2018 and launched her career as an artist there for the first time. Returning to France in 2022, she gradually developed her practice by creating dialogues between artistic mediums.
Inspired by abstract expressionism, psychedelic art, fractal art, and her personal experiences, her artistic approach is divided into three parts. First, the artist creates abstract paintings with a fluid aesthetic where flat colors, gradients, contrasts, and empty spaces coexist. These canvases serve as raw material for the creation of digital works, with an aesthetic that is at times dreamlike, at times fragmented, and even acid-tinged. She then reinterprets these creations by hand to complete this cyclical process (hand-computer-hand). Each work is thus linked to one or more others, while retaining its own identity and existence, and together they create an “ecosystem.”
