Since November 2020, under an initial agreement running through August 2023, the premises of the former Charial Hospital have been made available to the Salvation Army Foundation and the Foyer Notre Dame des Sans-Abri in partnership with Plateau Urbain and with the support of the Rhône Prefecture. By its very nature, this third place serves multiple purposes: Housing for 475 people, including 180 children, across five shelters

• Professional integration of people who are disconnected from the workforce through a textile workshop, a social grocery store, a laundry facility, and cleaning and maintenance activities;
• Meeting the need for workspace for local organizations (artisans, social and solidarity economy enterprises, associations, artists): nearly 40 organizations have set up shop;
• Offering services tailored to the region’s needs: a community health program accessible to all, a toy library, a restaurant, and a program of cultural, sports, and community education activities;
• Providing spaces for artist residencies or seminars;
• Developing an eco-friendly and socially responsible hospitality offering through the Le Grand Barnum hotel, which also provides training in the hospitality industry.
