Plateau Urbain is assisting the City of Vannes in developing a transitional urban planning strategy for the broader downtown area, particularly around the train station and the left bank of the harbor.
The mission involves mobilizing various tools for temporary activation—such as transitional use, tactical urbanism, events, and ephemeral uses—to support the gradual transformation of public spaces and to foreshadow their future uses.
The strategy is based on several objectives: testing new urban functions, enhancing the attractiveness of areas beyond the historic center, involving community, cultural, and economic stakeholders in the city’s transformation, and experimenting with the role of economic and productive activities in the city center.
Feasibility studies conducted on the targeted buildings help define the terms of availability for future occupants and support the development of local initiatives that contribute to the vitality of the area.
