PROFILE: RESIDENTS – THOMAS VIRZI

My name is Thomas Virzi. I work in project management and web development.
I started out in a work-study program, then I set up a small agency with a friend, and now I’m launching my freelance career.

I just got back from a trip to Asia: Thailand, Singapore… It was a great experience working remotely, but now I’m getting back to “serious” work here… I have a degree in Multimedia and Internet Professions (MMI). I also did quite a bit of audiovisual work and project management at Gobelins, before pursuing a master’s in technological innovation through a work-study program at a Société Générale incubator.

I wanted to try finding clients on my own, and that’s where I really developed my skills.

When I started my agency, there were just the two of us, and we worked at my place all the time. During the pandemic, it was very lonely, and I felt the need for a place where people could interact with each other.

Being at Les Bains Douches creates synergy—sometimes even in my work. It wasn’t planned, but it’s a real plus. It’s done me a world of good to work in a group again. I didn’t expect it to bring me so much: new projects, new connections, and even in daily life, the simple fact of not eating lunch alone makes a huge difference.

Right now, I’m doing project management for an agency that only hires freelancers. I handle connecting clients with service providers (graphic designers, SEO specialists, developers, etc.).

Otherwise, I’ve worked on several websites: letilia.org, a project with Jeanne Triboule—she did the graphic design and I built the site. I like the two-person team format best; I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and working with someone else gives my work a real sense of purpose, since I struggle to find that purpose in the graphic design part.
